Research notes
  • Many states 1767-1860; LOC holds 1811 and 1814, WDL/NLC the 1796-1820 revision with additions in blue. Huang Zongxi's 1673 map is the ultimate source.
  • Retry the IIIF region request; LOC tile server returned 503 on two large-region requests during this session.

Why it matters

The best-known late-Qing popular map of the empire: it fixes the Qing view of Mongolia, Xinjiang and the Kazakh and Russian neighbours around 1800 in Chinese terms, the domestic counterpart to Western Chinese Tartary maps of the same decades.
